Can I Hire a Private Chef to Cook at My Denver Airbnb?

Yes, and you rarely need the host's permission. What it costs in Denver, what the kitchen needs, and how far ahead to book.

Yes. You can hire a private chef to cook in almost any Denver Airbnb, and you do not need the host's permission to do it. The chef arrives with the groceries, cooks in the rental's own kitchen, serves your group, and leaves the kitchen clean. At TheKitchenTable, 43% of every request we receive comes from someone staying in a short-term rental, and the average group is 9 people. It is the single most common reason people book us.

Below is what it actually costs in Denver, what the kitchen needs to have, and how far ahead you should book.

Do you need the Airbnb host's permission to have a chef cook?

In almost every case, no. A private chef is a guest you invited, the same as a friend who cooks dinner. You are not running a business in the property or bringing in commercial equipment, so standard Airbnb house rules do not prohibit it.

The exception is a building with a staffed lobby or a strict guest-registration policy, which is common in downtown Denver apartment buildings such as those around Union Station. There, tell the host you are having a chef in, purely so the front desk lets them up with the shopping. Property managers generally welcome it: Atomic Stays offers our chefs across more than 300 Colorado properties precisely because it makes their listings more attractive, and Goodneighbor Realty sends us their guests for the same reason.

How much does a private chef cost for a Denver Airbnb?

Buffet service starts at $50 per person, family-style runs $75 to $100, and plated multi-course dinners run $75 to $150 per person. Those figures include the chef's time, the groceries, the cooking and the clean-up.

Price per head falls as the group grows, because the chef's travel and prep time is fixed whether they cook for six or sixteen. A group of four in Denver will pay more per person than a group of twelve. The largest event we have cooked was 160 guests at FoundryLine Apartments, buffet style. For a typical Airbnb group of 9, family-style tends to be the sweet spot: everyone eats together, nothing goes cold, and it costs less than plated service.

One caveat worth knowing before you plan a mountain trip: those prices work in Denver metro. A chef driving to Vail, Breckenridge or Aspen has hours of travel on top, so mountain bookings sit higher. Our full Denver pricing guide breaks it down properly.

Is a private chef cheaper than taking the group out in Denver?

For groups of six or more, it is usually comparable and often cheaper. A table for nine at a good Denver restaurant, with drinks, tax and a 20% tip, lands close to $100 a head before you have paid for parking or two rideshares.

The part people underestimate is the logistics. Restaurants in RiNo and LoDo rarely seat a party of nine on short notice, especially at a weekend dinner time, and splitting a group across two tables defeats the point of the trip. Cooking in the rental removes the reservation problem entirely, and nobody has to drive.

What does the kitchen need to have?

A working oven, a stovetop, a sink and a refrigerator. That is genuinely it for most menus.

When you send a request, we ask what appliances the rental has, and chefs write their menus around what is actually there. A rental with only a two-burner stove gets a menu built for two burners. Chefs bring their own knives and any specialist equipment. If the rental is short on serving dishes or you have only six plates for eight people, say so in the request and the chef will bring what is missing.

How far in advance should you book a chef in Denver?

Aim for one to two weeks. Chefs need roughly three days to shop properly for a menu, so anything under 72 hours limits what they can cook.

Holiday weeks are the real constraint. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year book out well in advance in Colorado, and so do the summer weekends when Denver fills with wedding parties and family reunions. If your dates fall in one of those windows, a month ahead is not too early. Outside them, we have matched chefs to guests in under 48 hours more than once.

What actually happens on the night?

The chef arrives 60 to 90 minutes before service with the groceries already bought, sets up in the rental's kitchen, cooks, serves each course, and cleans the kitchen before leaving.

You are not expected to help, and that is the whole point. Guests routinely tell us the part they remember is not the food but that nobody in the group spent the evening at the sink. The chef handles the washing up and takes their own equipment away, so the kitchen is left the way you found it, which also matters for your Airbnb checkout.

How do you find a private chef for a Denver Airbnb?

Tell us the date, the number of guests and roughly what you like to eat, and local chefs send you menus to choose from. There is no cost to ask and no obligation to book.

We have 55 chefs on the platform, several of whom trained in Michelin kitchens, and 170 reviews at an average of 4.8. You see each chef's menu and price before you commit to anything, and you can ask for changes to a menu before accepting it. Most guests get their first menus back within a day.
